I sound like an animal. I am craving a lot of protein lately. I can totally tell the difference in my body – during my workouts – when I don’t eat a well-balanced meal….like if I just eat all carbs or not enough fruit/veggies….or when I am on my busy schedule and am constantly eating take-out.
Side Note: I’d like to thank my Mom for telling me how important it is to eat a balanced diet and I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you sooner. My mom always told me “listen to your body” -so when it is craving something, it is probably trying to tell you what it needs! (hmm, wonder why my body always craves chocolate? I digress…)
I’ve noticed that if I wake up and don’t eat breakfast beforehand – my body feels so weak during my workout. I completely understand now that food = fuel for our bodies. And for the record, I am not saying I eat a huge steak before I exercise, but I definitely am more conscious of making sure I am getting all the nutrients my body is craving (including meat!). Before a race, I always eat a granola bar, banana, and drink lots of water. The night before I try to eat a bowl of pasta and some protein during the day.
I had a pretty good workout at the gym today: did a little bit of cardio, then an hour of spin, and 20 minutes of weights. Felt great. Afterwards my body was craving a good meal. I whipped up a taco salad…with all the good stuff: veggies, protein, and cheese! Got my protein fix tonight.
